IKEA and flat-pack furniture assembly in Dubai

Anything that arrives flat: wardrobe systems, bed frames and bunk beds, chests of drawers, bookcases and shelving units, desks, TV units, dining tables and chairs, children's furniture and outdoor sets. Wardrobe systems with sliding doors and fitted interiors take the longest and matter the most to get right, so we plan them first.

Tall and heavy flat-pack pieces come with an anti-tip fitting, and it should be used. The fixing depends on the wall: many Dubai apartments have gypsum partition walls between rooms and blockwork or concrete on the outer walls, and the wrong plug in the wrong wall holds nothing. We check the wall before drilling and use a fixing that suits it.

If you rent, ask your landlord or building before we drill. Most accept anchoring for safety, and the holes are small and easily filled at move-out.

Chipboard furniture weakens a little every time it is taken apart. Cam locks strip and dowel holes widen, so the fewer times a piece is dismantled, the longer it lasts. We only dismantle what will not travel whole, bag and label every fixing to its piece, and carry spares for the ones that are already worn.

Where a piece is too tired to survive another rebuild, we will say so before touching it, so you can decide whether it is worth moving at all.
